In 1971, Mercedes-Benz introduced the C107 SLC, a coupé version of the R107 SL, featuring a fixed roof, four seats, and an extended wheelbase.
Designed for those seeking a luxurious grand tourer, it was offered with six- and eight-cylinder engines, ranging from 2.8 to 4.5 liters.
In 1978, to compete in rally racing, Mercedes launched the 450 SLC 5.0, equipped with a 5.0-liter V8 and a lightweight body featuring an aluminum hood and trunk lid.
In 1980, with the model range update, the 500 SLC was introduced, featuring the same M117 4973 cm³ engine but now producing 240 hp and reaching a top speed of 225 km/h.
It became the top-of-the-line model and one of the most powerful Mercedes of its time.
